Michelle and Fred’s evening wedding was held at Saphire Estate in Sharon, MA. The days are long in late May so, weather permitting, ceremonies and cocktail hours can be held outside. The ceremony was on the patio next to the main building. Gorgeous flowers surround the entire area. Cocktail tables were set up in front, overlooking Lake Massapoag.
After the ceremony Michelle and Fred went down to the lake for sunset photos. It’s the perfect setting for those romantic shots. Ron Porzio is the event coordinator for Saphire Estate and he’s an easy guy to work with. He gave us the cues to play the processionals and made sure we had proper seating and good sight lines.
We played “Arioso” while Michelle and Fred lit a unity candle after their rings and vows. I checked with the reverend a week before the wedding to work out exactly when he wanted us to begin playing the piece. Different officiants have different procedures, so be sure your musicians check ahead of time. Also, if you’re planning to light a unity candle during an outdoor ceremony, be sure you’re in a windless area; otherwise, you’ll have a hard time lighting the candles. The patio at Saphire Estate is protected from the wind so everything worked out well.
