Have you ever attended a wedding where a member of the bridal party becomes ill?
I’ve played at three weddings where the ceremony was interrupted when the bride or groom couldn’t stay on their feet. Two were caused by heat and dehydration and the other was likely caused by too much partying the night before. It’s always a surprise when this happens but we’re prepared for anything; we play quiet music until the ceremony resumes (45 minutes later, in one case).
Some churches don’t have air conditioning, so on a 90-degree day everyone suffers. If you’re getting married in the summer and the church or venue is not air-conditioned, you should check on the availability of fans and have one aimed at you and your spouse to be. And make sure you remember to eat something and stay hydrated with non-alcoholic beverages before the ceremony.
